The airport and its location
Inaugurated on 12 April 1975, the idea of a new airport for the city, the metropolis and the Lyon region emerged in the late 1960s following the saturation of Lyon-Bron airport. With an area of 2,000 hectares, Saint-Exupéry airport is located in the middle of an important crossroads between the Rhône and the Saône, while being close to the Alps, Italy and Switzerland. Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport is 25 km away from the centre of Lyon metropolis, 75 km from Saint Etienne and 90 km from Grenoble. It takes place on several communes at the same time, whose names are Colombier-Saugnieu, Pusignan, Saint-Bonnet-de-Mure and Genas.
This airport, firstly named Lyon-Satolas, has changed its name on June 29, 2000 in honour of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, born in our beautiful city.

Shuttle Lyon Airport to Part-Dieu station
Today there are several means of transport that are available to get to Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport from Part-Dieu train station. Lyon Part-Dieu Station and Saint-Exupéry Airport are the two biggest hubs of transport in the Lyon region, so they welcome the majority of travellers and tourists who are coming in Lyon’s city and who are leaving it.
In order to connect these two transport key points within Lyon, users have several choices. Let’s start with taxis and private drivers, presents in every major French city and the world. They can pick you up directly in the lobby of a train station or directly at airport to take you at your home or at your hotel. These two services prove to be a very efficient way to reach Lyon’s airport safely. However, the price is rather substantial for this type of service since it takes about 60€ for a transfer from Lyon city centre to the airport and 120€ for a round trip, which can quickly be out of reach for a single traveler or a couple.
The second solution is the Rhône Express, a tramway dedicated to the connection between Lyon’s airport and Part-Dieu station. This solution is nevertheless quite expensive and the quality/price ratio is not there if we take a look at the different reviews left by the users. It should be noted that until now the Rhône Express had no competition. In fact, if a traveller did not have a vehicle or someone to take them to the airport, he was forced to use this tramway, which still displeased many visitors and more generally Lyon people.
Shuttle Lyon now offers you to reach Saint Exupéry airport at a lower cost. Our stop points as Charpennes, Vaulx la Soie and Meyzieu are all very easy to reach from Part-Dieu train station thanks to subways and tramways. The shuttles are offering a real alternative to the Rhône Express, which offers a higher range of prices from Part-Dieu, Vaulx-en-Velin or Meyzieu. Save money from now with Shuttle Lyon shared shuttles!
